• About Us

Impacting the children of tomorrow... Showing youth a better way of life while providing them with a weekend of fun to experience new things and meet new friends. Nothing we do is as important as the impact that we have on the youth community. Engaging activities develop values, skills and relationships.

Activities are not seen as ends in themselves, but as vehicles for creating values, building skills and solidifying peer and adult relationships. An engaging activity is one that holds the youth's attention, awakens their imagination, and inspires them to want to learn more.

All youth have equal rights to be accepted, respected and valued by others. Youth are viewed as individuals to be developed, not problems to be solved. Youth should be involved in decision-making and program design.

If children get to choose how, when, in what and with whom to be engaged, they are far more likely to enjoy themselves and behave cooperatively. When we listen for understanding everyone learns — youth and adults alike. We are constantly able to learn from the youth as well as each other. Everyone is a learner.

OUR MISSION: Put a bow in a kid’s hand and lead their family to the Lord—one-on-one.

The Kicking Bear Ministry is a nationwide faith-based, non-denominational youth program. It was founded in 2000 by Ray Howell as a 501(c)3 organization. Kicking Bear is valued as an important outreach to the Christian community. By using God’s great outdoors and archery as tools, we are able to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel to reach those who have yet to accept Jesus as their personal Savior.

The campouts, shoots and other events are a great way to introduce youth to the outdoors and to the sport of archery. The program’s mission is to help underprivileged and at-risk youth, or any youth, who wants to get into the outdoors. Kicking Bear events are free to everyone who wishes to participate. By encouraging others to reach outside their homes, we can help break the cycle and put dreams in these kids' hearts that will change not only their lives, but their families' lives to come.

The Kicking Bear Ministry Impacts the youth of tomorrow by giving them opportunities to enjoy God’s creation, while experiencing fun outdoor activities such as archery, and to make new friends. Nothing we do is as important as the impact we have on today’s youth. These outdoor activities help youth develop values, skills, and relationships.

Although the activities are not seen as ends in themselves, they are used as vehicles for creating values, building skills, and solidifying peer and adult relationships. Any engaging activity is one that holds the youth’s attention, awakens their imagination, and inspires them to want to learn more.

All youth have equal rights to be accepted, respected, and valued by others. Youth are viewed as individuals to be developed, not problems to be solved and as such should be involved in decision-making and program design.

When youth get to choose how, when, in what and with whom to be engaged, they are far more likely to enjoy themselves and behave accordingly. When we listen for understanding, everyone learns – youth and adults alike. We are constantly able to learn from the youth as well as from each other.

The Kicking Bear Ministry depends on the financial support of those who partner with us. We pray that you would consider making a donation.

  • Statement of Faith

    1. We believe in the Triune God ~ Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Creator of all things.
    2. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, was buried, was resurrected, ascended into heaven, and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father and is true God and true man.
    3. We believe the Bible in its entirety to be the inspired Word of God (God breathed) and the infallible rule of faith and conduct.
    4. We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His image, but they sinned when tempted by Satan. In union with Adam, we human beings are sinners by nature and by choice alienated from God and under His wrath. Only through God’s saving work in Jesus Christ can we be rescued, reconciled, and renewed.
    5. We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only way for salvation.
    6. We believe every believer is called to live so in the paower of the indwelling Spirit that he will not fulfill the lust of the flesh but will bear fruit to the glory of God.
    7. We believe in personal salvation of believers through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. We believe in sanctification through the Word of God and by the Holy Spirit.
    8. We believe in the Christian’s hope ~ the soon-coming, personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
    9. We believe we will live forever—and not just live forever, but we will live forever with Christ—and not just that, but we will have glorious bodies that are like his, with power and glory and life that’s far better than what we know now.
    10. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ commanded all believers to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world and to disciple people of every nation. The fulfillment of that Great Commission requires that all worldly and personal ambitions be subordinated to a total commitment to "Him who loved us and gave Himself for us."  We believe we are disciples sent into the world to make disciples.
